The Peter Principle is a management concept developed in 1969 by Laurence J. Peter and Raymond Hull. The Peter Principle states that over time, a person who is competent in his/her job is usually promoted to a higher position that requires different skills. If the promoted person does not have the skills required for the new position, he will be incompetent at the new level. If he is competent he will usually be promoted again over time until he reaches a level of incompetence.
