.A few months ago, Twitter introduced a new system that consists in granting, against payment of a fee, a blue badge, which stands for " verified profile" or real and true. In exchange for this verification badge, users who have paid for it receive more and better service including increased visibility among other users.
The verification of profiles and the awarding of a blue symbol, against payment, was and is not mandatory. It only provides more guarantees for other users that they are not dealing with fake profiles.
Just about every artist, singers, movie stars and an awful lot of politicians have jumped on this bandwagon to reap all the benefits.
Elon Musk, who paid $44 billion for the company in October 2022, had promised to abolish the blue symbol of " verified profile". He described the badge as a system that divides users into " nobles " on one hand, and " vassals" on the other. However, he has not done so. On the contrary.
Since Thursday 20 April, Twitter has been massively deleting verified profiles. By Thursday at noon, Oprah Winfrey, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Kim Kardashian, prominent TV personalities, media outlets and quite a few politicians had lost their tick marks. Even Donald Trump and the Pope were not spared. Elon Musk's profile remains undiminished as "verified" as do those of controversial politicians who have categorically challenged the corona hoax and have been chopped to pieces by the mainstream press like US senator Marjorie Taylor Greene, for example.
The mainstream press claims that the Twitter profiles who have lost their verification badge are individuals who refuse to pay. This, however, is incorrect. Besides, what is a mere 8 dollar a month for a billionaire, a celebrity or a media outlet generating hundreds of millions in revenue ?
According to MSM, now only those who subscribe to the Twitter Blue program could have the verified symbol, whose color changes according to the nature of the profile, as well as other benefits, such as writing longer tweets or posting videos and editing publications within 30 minutes. This too is incorrect
