MP McVey asked Secretary of State Caulfield in Parliament about the causes of the significant rise in the UK's death rate and further asked if the Health Secretary would conduct an urgent and thorough investigation into the causes.
Reply from Secretary of State Caulfield :
"there is a range of factors; this is something we see in all countries across Europe " and that was the end of the matter. No investigation and no explanation.
